accessibility
We want whimsee to be usable by as many people as possible, and we treat that as part of the product, not a box to tick. We aim for the WCAG 2.2 AA standard, and where we cannot reach you one way, we want another way in.
This is an honest self-assessment, not an audited certificate. It is what we do today and what we know is still missing. Last reviewed July 2026.
What we already do
- Motion rests when you ask it to. We honour your device's reduce-motion setting across the site, and we keep animation gentle, with nothing that flashes or strobes.
- Every picture is described. Every glimmer and photo carries a written description, so a glimmer still lands even if you cannot see the image.
- Light and dark. The website follows your device's light or dark preference, and the app has its own dusk theme.
- Text you can size up. The app has a text-size control, from default up to largest, that scales the whole interface.
- Plain, warm words. We write simply, with no jargon and no rush to read or decide.
- The hunt is not sight-only. The immersive hunt pairs gentle buzzes, warmth colour, and written cues together, so guidance never rests on one sense alone.
Where we know we fall short
- We have not had a formal WCAG audit yet, so some pages are not yet checked against every AA point.
- A map is a visual thing. The core wander is built to work without it, but the Explore map itself is not a substitute-free experience yet.
- The immersive hunt is a physical, outdoor activity by nature. We pair the senses above to soften that, but it still asks you to move in the real world.
- Colour contrast and focus order on the newer pages are designed with care, but not yet independently checked to AA. They are on the list.
Telling us, and getting help
If something is hard to use, or you need a page or a glimmer in a different format, please write to hello@whimsee.co.uk. Tell us what you were trying to do and what got in the way, and we will help and get back to you within a month. Your note is how the gaps above get found and fixed.
The standard, and your rights
We provide this statement freely and measure ourselves against WCAG 2.2 AA. Whimsee is a small independent product, not a public body, but we hold ourselves to the same target so that partners can rely on it. If you are not happy with how we have responded, tell us and we will try again.
